THE MAKING OF A TV

We are going on 1 whole month since Julian got out of school. I have constantly struggled to keep my children occupied - and by occupied, I mean, of course, that they are not screaming AT each other, and no one is in danger of injury. There is so much pressure to give your kids a meaningful experience each day - heaven forbid they have any time in a day to entertain themselves! No, as parents, we must always have something for them to do - or a camp to send them to.

Yesterday, Julian had a great idea to make a TV (complete with remote control, of course). We spent part of the morning creating (cutting, taping, coloring) our TV:

It started so well with the kids collaborating. Julian was so encouraging and even helped Kathryn decide what color to use. Kathryn is drawing the buttons (which later, of course, Julian changed to make better).

By this point, Julian has completely excluded Kathryn from the construction of the TV. She now stands - just watching.

Overall, they had a great time making the TV. They're favorite "program" to broadcast is the weather channel. Julian always looks at my desktop sidebar to check the weather for the day - even in pretend everything needs to be "just so"

THE FINISHED PROJECT

Julian wanted to be IN the TV. We are working on inserts (Drawings) that should fit nicely into the screen, and may save a crimp in Julian's neck. He is getting so big!

Notice, the remote control is an almost-exact replica of our digital cable remote.

And the piece de resistance - we watch the real TV through our pretend TV!!

I love being a MOM!
